Manchester United are now looking to sign an “amazing” striker, who has received a ringing endorsement from Wayne Rooney already this season.
After taking some time to adapt to life in the Premier LeagueBenjamin Sesko has now found his form, scoring in his last two outings, most recently finding the back of the net in Man United’s 2-0 triumph against Sunderland.
Having shelled out £74m to sign the Slovenian striker, United will be hoping Sesko can go on to establish himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier Leaguebut it is likely to take time, given that the former RB Leipzig man is still just 22-years-old.
With Rasmus Hojlund leaving to join Napoli on a season-long loan deal in the summer, Joshua Zirkzee is the current back-up option at striker, but there are doubts about his future, with West Ham United among the clubs looking to capitalize on the Dutchman’s desire to leave.
Should Reuben Amorim‘s side sanction Zirkzee’s departure, it would make sense to bring in another striker, and they are now looking to sign a Premier League star, who has received a ringing endorsement from Rooney.
According to a report from Spain, Man United have now set their sights on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Phillippe Matetawho is valued at around €50m (£44m) by the south London club, having emerged as a key player.
Palace currently remain confident they will be able to keep hold of the Frenchman, but United have the financial resources to tempt them into a sale, and the centre-forward is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Earlier this season, Rooney revealed that he is a big fan of the 28-year-old, given the way in which he occupies defenders and makes things difficult for them.
Crucially, the Sevran-born striker is Premier League proven, having maintained a very solid record in front of goal in the top flight over the past two seasons.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner has also hailed the Frenchman in the past, saying: “He is amazing in the box. He has the feeling that a number nine must have in the box. He makes so many runs where he doesn’t get the ball. You need to suffer as a striker because you make so many runs where you don’t get the ball. He gets the reward and it decides the game for us.”
Having impressed at club level, the former Mainz man was recently handed his first start for France, and he grasped the opportunity with both hands, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Iceland.
As such, Mateta would be an exciting signing for Man United, and Amorim could certainly do with another option at striker if Zirkzee departs.
